April’s kitchen project of the month
For April’s kitchen project of the month, we have chosen the beautifully designed kitchen belonging to Mr & Mrs. Mellor of Ripon near Leeds. This kitchen was one of the largest kitchen projects we have undertaken to date, they came to us about their old, uninspiring and poorly laid out kitchen which didn’t match the grandeur of their stunning property. The Mellor’s had an open mind and gave us the opportunity to lead the overall kitchen design based on our experience.
Making a social kitchen
The Mellor’s wanted the space to be more social as their family was growing older and their current design wasn’t working with more adults in the house. We did this by adding in a central breakfast bar whilst maintaining large amounts of space and storage by adding accessories such as pull out baskets and pull out corner units. Moreover, to make sure nothing would be in the kitchen that didn’t need to be we also worked on their entrance hall, adding a tall unit for hanging coats and drawers for shoes.
Crisp kitchen design with traditional features
Within the kitchen design, we made sure to make a modern cooking area while still incorporating the Mellor’s beloved traditional features, such as their original aga oven and plenty of cupboard space and storage solutions. We also incorporated a Belfast style ceramic sink with a stylish traditional tap and water spray – perfect for cleaning up after a big family Sunday dinner! Additionally, we added ceiling spot lights and led underlighting to the wall units to give a modern and warm feel. There is also a glass unit with lighting within to display any decorative or valuable pieces of pottery or glassware.
It’s important when designing any room to give the space little touches that can make your life easier or add to the rooms overall aesthetics. For example, The Mellor’s chose the glass splashback in the colour blue to add a personal touch to the room (this particular splashback is available in any Dulux colour). Also, there is a pull-up socket in the end of the peninsular which also has a Bluetooth speaker!
The beautiful floor is tiled in large polished porcelain tiles in gloss grey with the worktop being granite premium black, plus it has solid ash doors which were hand painted in the UK in an oyster colour.
We had worked with Mr & Mrs. Mellor previously on other rooms in their home such as two of their bedrooms, home office, en-suite and downstairs WC. Re-designing and completing their kitchen project was an absolute pleasure, and we’re really pleased with the outcome!
