Traditional vs Contemporary: Which Kitchen Style is Right For You?

When planning your new kitchen, it makes sense to take the time to choose a style you love!  After all, we spend a great deal of time in our kitchens, so choosing a design you’re absolutely sure of is key!  Both traditional and contemporary style kitchens offer something different for your new space.  Here we look at the key features of both styles to help you to choose the right one for you!

Traditional Kitchen

Timeless, a traditional kitchen gives a really welcoming and homely feel. The traditional design is all about creating a space which is truly the heart of any home. Using neutral colours such as whites, creams and greys enhances natural light into the space giving your kitchen a relaxed, open feel whilst retaining a feeling of warmth. Natural flooring is a great choice for any traditional kitchen.  Using materials such as tile, stained hardwood or patterned stone always work incredibly well in any traditional kitchen.

Contemporary kitchen

A sleek design, with clean, smooth lines is key in the design of any contemporary kitchen. Minimalistic cabinetry with handleless options are very popular and incorporating reflective surfaces along with high gloss cabinets and glass splashbacks give your kitchen a very sophisticated feel.

Clever storage ideas with integrated appliances and pull-out cabinets give your kitchen a clean, uncluttered look. White is a very popular colour for a contemporary kitchen but adding in a coloured splashback using a primary colour can add another dimension!

Or just mix it up!

Let’s be honest, you don’t have to necessarily choose a traditional or contemporary design.  You can always mix it up between the two to suit your own individual style!

If you love both traditional and contemporary kitchens, then why not consider adding elements of both into the design?

Adding in some modern pendant lighting or stainless steel accents can add a contemporary twist to a traditional kitchen or adding in some traditional features such as a classic style range cooker or natural flooring can give a traditional twist to a contemporary kitchen.
